Changing Hand for WT/WB/U
Step 1 |
|

|
| Remove
high speed end caps. If gaskets are removed carefully they
can be reused. Flanges may require tapping with a soft hammer
to unseat them. Avoid damage to oil seals on open end covers
by lightly oiling shafts and by sliding seals on and off parallel
to shafts. |
|
Step 2 |
|

|
| Drive
worm towards closed end. This will press out the closed
end bearing race. |
|
Step 3 |
|

|
| Remove
open end bearing race. Drive the worm back out the open
end, removing the open end bearing race. Remove by carefully
lifting it over the worm gear. |
|
Step 4 |
|

|
| Remove
and insert worm, drive in races. Tap in bearing races to
mate with their respective bearings. |
|
Step 5 |
| Reassemble
end caps, check for bearing end play. Lubricate the part
of the shaft coming in contact with the oil seal and the oil seal
surfaces before sliding seal over shaft. The assembled unit
should turn smoothly by hand without drag, noise or excessive
bearing end play. Proper assembly is essential for unit
to give normal service life. Most Hampton units will require
no shimming. |
