Tests for Proper Reassembly |
| Worm
too loose. The worm shaft should have
almost no end play when the input shaft is held and the output shaft
is rotated back and forth. If there is noticeable play, shims
should be added to properly preload the bearings. Remove an
end cap, place a shim on the bearing race, replace end cap and tighten.
If more shims are needed, add alternately inside open and closed
end caps until bearing freeplay is minimized. The closer you
can get to zero end play without drag or noise, the better. |
